It seems that Oasis was an influence on Metallica recently, but not in the musical sense. Noel Gallagher gave up cocaine in 1998, and a couple of years ago, Metallica's Lars Ulrich gave up cocaine while taking Gallagher as his inspiration: "A couple of years ago I was like, 'You know? Enough of this. I don't need it'. It was literally something that happened one morning, like 'Y'know? Fuck that.'" Describing himself as an "Oasis fanatic" Ulrich cited Gallagher's ability to kick the habit as a model: "If he can do it, everybody else can do it."
It's always nice to see musicians of any stripe getting off life-crippling addictions. Now if only Metallica would produce a quality album after its drumme has gone clean.
