Metal supergroup Shrinebuilder materializes!

We've just received some saliva-worthy details about the metal supergroup to end all metal supergroups: SHRINEBUILDER, now confirmed to involve Scott Kelly of Neurosis (pictured), Al Cisneros of Om/Sleep, Dale Crover of the Melvins and none other than flippin' Wino of St. Vitus/Hidden Hand/The Obsessed, is headed into an L.A. studio today through Sunday. Take THAT, Kingdom of Sorrow!

Faint rumors about Shrinebuilder's existence have been floating around since late '07, but this is the first solid news we've heard that the band is more than a doom metal fan's wet dream. Yesterday, Wino posted a blog entry on Shrinebuilder's MySpace page detailing some of the gear they'll be using (yes, it includes Sunn and Orange amps). The band will also post daily recording updates at a new blog locale, http://weburnthroughthenight.blogspot.com.

Assuming that the recording session doesn't end in the entire band being smothered to death by heavy jam sauce, Shrinebuilder's debut is set for a Summer '09 release via Neurot Recordings. Let the unreasonably high expectations commence. 

In related news, Wino's bitchin' new solo album, Punctuated Equilibrium, is coming out this Tuesday via Southern Lord.
