There was an absolutely bonkers story in the New York Times this weekend about how there's been a rash of karaoke murders involving Frank Sinatra's "My Way" in the Philippines. Apparently, if you get up and sing it in a Philippine bar, your liable to get your face stomped in, shanked, or at worst, buried. Seriously. The story is about how people who do karaoke in the Philippines have stopped doing "My Way," even though that's the song they'd all like to sing. But they don't out of fear of making someone mad enough to kill them. The craziest part is that no one can explain why the beatings, etc. are occurring; it just seems like people are nuts about Frank Sinatra over there. Go here to read the story.
That demands to be studied further.
I believe that the lyrics have to do with the killings. Paul Anka wrote the song that reflect on a dying man's life. The words, "I took the blows" likely lead to violence.
