Merge to feed America with merch
If you're feeling a shade of blue over the holiday season, why not sit down by an Arcade Fire to warm your heart? An autographed, silk-screened poster of them, anyway. Merge Records is doing their part to battle seasonal depression and, more importantly, help those who can't afford an iPod (or shelter, for that matter). Starting today, Merge begins their 2007 charity auction by giving you the chance to bid on one-of-a-kind posters from artists including (but certainly not limited to) Robert Pollard, M. Ward, Oakley Hall, Spoon, The Rosebuds, Superchunk, Portastatic and Destroyer on their eBay seller's page. The artwork will go up two at a time until they're all snatched up, and you might want to get a move on -- the first two posters signed by the Arcade Fire and David Kilgour & the Heavy 8's are already up for grabs.
All proceeds from the auctions will go to Oxfam America and Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina.
So finally, you can tell your father that you're not wasting your time on some silly obsession with all of these weird bands that nobody ever heard of -- you're rebuilding lives.
