It’s been three years since Mercury Rev’s last album, The Secret Migration, was ushered forth from Dave Fridmann’s upstate New York studio. Now the band is back with not one, but two new albums. Both records are set to drop on September 29, and one will be available exclusively as a free download. Snowflake Midnight is the main release, and according to the band’s website “the entire album sequence appears to be a resplendent fractal, folding in upon itself, into something continually new, unpredictable and spontaneous, and yet, paradoxically at times so subtly self-aware, never failing to resemble itself in the whole...”
Wow. But wait. There’s more. This “resplendent fractal” will be accompanied by the free download album, Strange Attractor, which “reflects an even subtler kind of self-organization, its own ground state of order not immediately perceived but rather felt over the course of a complete listen.” Clearly the Mercury Rev webmaster is smoking some very good shit. Here are the full track listings for both albums.
