Big Star’s Third/Sister Lovers is one of the most beautifully desolate albums of all time, and its reputation has only grown with every passing year since its release in 1978. For a long time the record was though of as a musicians album—often talked about by artists, but difficult to find in the pre-Internet era until Rykodisc reissued it in 1992.
Now, a bunch of those musicians are getting together to recreate the album, as a special show to be staged at the Barbican in London on May 28. Surviving Big Star member Jody Stephens will be joined by an incredible array of artists at the concert, including Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Sharon Van Etten, Robyn Hitchcock and a host of others.
If that wasn’t enough Big Star for your buck (or pound), a second set will be performed on the night, which will focus on solo works by Alex Chilton and Chris Bell. Tickets for the show are on sale now via this link, and a special podcast is streaming below to commemorate the event. [via Clash]
