Boom Bip has clearly taken a liking to working with singers these days. This trait became particularly apparent following his 2008 collaboration with Gruff Rhys under the Neon Neon moniker. Their album, Stainless Style, was one of the L.A.-based producer's most accessible and successful efforts to date.
But don't let that lead you to believe Boom Bip's going to be all-'80s-everything on his new solo album, Zig Zaj. Quite the opposite really if soaring lead single "All Hands" is any indication. The track recalls some of his more post rock-leaning tendencies as it slowly builds for the first 90 seconds before breaking into a swirling haze led by drums, guitars, and distant vocals.
As I alluded to earlier, Boom Bip is still down to work with guest vocalists as several appear on Zig Zaj. Most notably, Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and Empire of the Sun's Luke Steele provide vocals on the album while members of Warpaint and Bon Iver serve as the producer's live band.
Zig Zaj is due out Sept. 27 on Lex Records. You can stream "All Hands" and view the track list below.
