MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom, aka Kim Schmitz, was arrested — no, captured — in high fashion last week for when police swarmed his New Zealand mansion. And since then, we’ve been wondering whether or not Dotcom, who’s charged with violating U.S. piracy laws, would be allowed to post bail.
Well, it turns out he’s been denied bail by a court in New Zealand and will remain in custody until a hearing on Feb. 22. Prosecutors argued that he was considered “a flight risk at the extreme end of the scale” because he was found to have access to not just a shitload of money but multiple identities to boot. Wow, when will this story not be crazy? [Gizmodo]
