Standing out from the bustling throngs of Hasidic reggae artists (okay, okay, he's still the only one), Matisyahu is set to dominate the reggae charts again, with his first album in three years, Light. Set for an April 21 release on Epic, the album finds Matisyahu working with some of the leading lights of reggae. No less esteemed a rhythm section than the legendary Sly & Robbie lends stalwart support on several cuts, and producer/musician Stephen McGregor (son of reggae hero Freddie McGregor) turns up as both co-producer (along with David Kahne) and keyboard player. And if that wasn't enough, how about the bassist and drummer from Fishbone popping in to play on a couple of cuts? Not to worry, though: There's no chance of Matisyahu's own star being obscured amid all this stellar company, and unless he becomes embroiled in some reality-TV celebrity beard battle with Rick Rubin and the guys from Z.Z. Top, there will be a tour coming up to support the album, with a schedule to be announced soon.
