Mastodon recording new tracks with Brendan O’Brien

Hanging out with a very nervous looking Bruce Springsteen seems to have fired up the creative juices of Atlanta rockers Mastodon. The band is hitting the studio with his producer, Brendan O’Brien, in tow to record a follow-up to their 2006 release Blood Mountain. Though there haven’t been any indications if O’Brien’s influence will lead to a more melodic Mastodon, the sessions will probably be short. Mastodon is scheduled to play Bonnaroo and recently joined the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, where they will share the stage with Disturbed, Slipknot, and Dragonforce. No release date has been set for the album, and the band has also been mum on whether Bruce will be offering some pensive growls on the album. [Pitchfork]
