Mary J. Blige: Sorry About That Burger King Ad

Remember that Mary J. Blige Burger King ad? Not many got a chance to see it after it was pulled due to accusations of racism/”licensing issues,” but Blige still wants to apologize.

Speaking with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez, Blige expressed dismay over how the ad came across. She originally thought she would be singing about a sandwich, not fried chicken, so when she was hit with accusations of playing into racial stereotypes, Blige was surprised. Also, she thinks the ad looked like “soft porn,”  adding that “my heart dropped down to my stomach” the first time she saw it on TV.

Blige then offered this statement: “I want to apologize to everyone that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture. I would never do anything like that purposefully. I thought I was doing something right. So forgive me.” Watch the full interview below. [Daily Swarm/Wall Street Journal]
