Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige spoke with MTV about supervillain Thanos in the upcoming Phase Two Marvel movies.
Feige kept quiet on whether Thanos would appear in The Avengers 2 or Guardians of the Galaxy, despite speculation that he would. However, he does confirm that there was “clearly… a purpose” for the shot of Thanos at the end of The Avengers.
“We do have plans for him… I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other,” said Feige. He pointed out that Marvel was successful in taking their time to build up their cinematic universe before releasing The Avengers and plans to do the same thing for Phase Two, saying “I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”
While Damon Poitier played Thanos in The Avengers, Feige says Marvel is open to recasting the part. “That was cast for literally that one shot,” Feige explained. “Depending on what the role requires from future movies, we’ll go from there.”
