The ever prolific guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has been all over the place with various amounts of output in the aftermath of the end of The Mars Volta, the progressive rock band that created such masterpieces as De-Loused In The Comatorium and Frances The Mute. Cedric Bixler-Zavala, the band's vocalist, talked of a rift between him and his longtime friend and bandmate Rodriguez-Lopez while announcing the band was done for good.
However, today is the day that Mars Volta fans may rejoice. No, The Mars Volta is not reuniting, but Cedric and Omar have teamed together in a supergroup - Antemasque. With Dave Elitch on drums, and Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist (and longtime Mars Volta collaborator) Flea adding the rhythm section, the band has made no announcements on albums, releases, tours, or anything. The only information presented right now is a rehearsal video from ESPN's X-Games' site (view here) and a thirteen second trailer with tons of cut editing and presented to confirm that the band is a reality (below).
