The Cannes film festival has attracted a number of musicians this year, including former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher and goth rocker Marilyn Manson. Sadly, the pair aren’t planning a collaboration, but the latter does have a movie coming out, which he stars in with his fiancée, Evan Rachel Wood.
The singer will be directed by David Gordon Green, whose eclecticism has taken him from acclaimed indie films to giant Hollywood comedies and now into the slasher movie world. Yes, that much-maligned ‘80s genre is about to have a comeback (not that it ever really went away), with the Manson/Wood/Green effort the first in a projected schlock horror franchise.
The film will be titled Splatter Sisters, and is billed as “a sexploitation-serial-killer-slasher-road-movie circa 1989.” Speaking about his singer-turned-actor, Green said: “This is a role Marilyn Manson was born to play, and with Evan Rachel Wood bringing dramatic gravity to the ensemble, I have no doubt this will take the horror genre to a new level.”
That sounds about right. He's gotta do something, right?
