Mariah Carey Acting Erratically at Awards Shows (Videos)

Two awards shows in consecutive nights proved to be a struggle for Mariah Carey. On Tuesday (Jan. 5) she appeared at the Palm Springs Film Festival, where she slurred and stumbled through an acceptance speech after winning a Best Supporting Actress Award for her turn in Precious (see video above).

Carey hints that she’s had too much to drink during the speech, and Precious director Lee Daniels is the poor unfortunate figure who has to grimace on the podium with her through the whole ordeal. "Oh my goodness!” she begins. “I don't think they understand the kitten in cotton thing. No we don't. Ok, I love you." Riiiight. Perhaps a reference to this incident?

Things got a little better last night (Jan. 6) at the People’s Choice Awards (see video below), where Carey seemed to hold it together, although she needed Nick Cannon’s help to guide her up to the stage after almost tripping over her dress. Let’s just hope she’s not eyeing a post-music career as an after dinner speaker, because that would have car crash written all over it.
