Malkmus and the Jicks reveal Real cover art

So the album is entitled Real Emotional Trash. Given that moniker, the album cover should be something like a snapshot of Britney freaking out as she's dragged off to the psych ward, right? Or a picture of the latest contestant kicked off The Biggest Loser breaking down after being eliminated? Not exactly. How about a Richard Serra-esque whirly spiral pattern with what appears to be a mutant Woodstock flitting on it? Ummm . . .  okay. That's what Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are going with for the cover of their new album, at left. Real Emotional Trash is on for a March 18 release via Matador.

That cover sucks. The most Malk-like cover he had was the self-titled.

As do I, although I remember somewhere (maybe in the book WE ROCK SO YOU DONT HAVE TO or on the SLOW CENTURY documentary) that Malk or Spiral S admits that they were basically just trying to make record covers that looked like The Fall. But whatever, those covers are so iconic to me.

Confession: I just woke up from a dream in which Dave Berman and Stephen Malkmus, wearing felt hats, picked me up from the airport and drove me to some speech. I charmed Stephen with some airplane humor, and I was totally hitting it off with them WHEN THE GODDAMN PHONE WOKE ME UP. I haven't had a good dream in months.

Was Berman nice? He doesn't seem like he'd be all that talkative. But y'know, since it was a dream, maybe he was?

He didn't talk much. He just made some clever remarks. Malkmus was more friendly.
