Major band reunion promised by bored British promoter

Now that the Led Zeppelin with Robert Plant rumors have all but disappeared thanks to Plant’s refusal to go for the bucks, British music publication are left fishing for other reunion news. This led them to Rob Hallett, a promoter who told BBC News that there is a major reunion coming down the pipeline. Here’s what he said:

"I do have another reformation up my sleeve that I can't talk about yet that is going to please a lot of people of a certain age.

"If you were a teenage boy in the pre-punk '70s you're going to be very excited.

Outside of Led Zeppelin, this is probably the biggest reformation you can hope for."

Uncut posits it’s probably Deep Purple or Genesis, but they seem more excited by the prospect of Slade reuniting. But honestly, unless it’s Zeppelin, is there really a band everyone is waiting for to reunite (outside of a re-animated George Harrison and John Lennon re-uniting the Beatles)? If it is Genesis, or Slade, or Deep Purple, will people actually line-up to see them? Maybe a few hundred paunchy businessmen who want to hear “Smoke on the Water” in a live setting, but that’s about it. [Uncut]

I agree that I don't think it's going to be any band that people have been holding there breath for.

Er, Deep Purple are around and are playing Smoke on the Water live most nights of the year...

Has to be The Smiths

Robert Plant needs fans to beg him, petition him, whatever...it would be a waste for Page/Jones to go without him.

Actually, a Smiths reunion would be huge.

Or perhaps A Flock Of Seagulls would be exciting, maybe. Yes?

..so how much money was on the table for a Plant/Led Zeppelin tour?? I can understand Plant's new found blugrass career and he's good at it. But how much did he actually walk away from??

Are We Not Men? No. We Are...

"..so how much money was on the table for a Plant/Led Zeppelin tour??" Plant's take alone had to be $1,000 at least, I figure...

The Zeppelin problem is not about money or pleasing their fan base. It's all about the MUSIC! Plant is refusing to reunite because a lack of musical originality. This is what made Zeppelin so great in the first place. I understand the yearning for nastalgia and to be able to say "I saw Led Zeppelin" but it is true that if they did another tour it would only be rehashing old tunes that don't sound nearly as good as when they were in their prime. Plant has a point and it's about musical integrity! I can respect that. You can never go back to the magic. You can only persue new avenues of musical interest and hope that something magical comes out of it. Stick you your guns Robert!

I agree with you Jeff, but... I do know that new material could develop as what Jones reported. JPJones has come up with excellent new material on his solo albums that is fantastic... much in the spirit of King Crimson. Also, Page has experimented with new material and I do think they would come up with some fresh ideas that I would love to hear. I do wish that Robert would join them in creating new music that they have had a great history of creativity, but if he decides to continue with his excellent recent collaboration, I applaud him! It is all about the MUSIC! I would be happy to hear what Page/Jones/Jason B came up with in a small venue if that is what transpires. It's NOT a money issue for any of them.

As far as a reunion of another act... would it be Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket!?!? That would be fantastic!!!! And I would love to hear some of their original music!

If the promoter talks to the major band from the 70's rock music, just after Led Zeppelin, it was Deep Purple which was the most influential, popular and major band in the world. Only Led Zeppelin was more popular than Deep Purple during 70's....

So, if we talk about the most major band's Reunion after Led Zeppelin, it will be Deep Purple surely.

Ok, Deep Purple aren't split now, they're recording albums and touring with world's one of the greatest guitarist, amazing Steve Morse.

But there were a lot of rumours before, about Reunion of Deep Purple MkII (Gillan/Blackmore/Lord/Glover/Paice) because it was the classical and the most popular Deep Purple lineup...

Also, Deep Purple is celebrating their 40 years anniversary nex year in 2009... So, let's see what happens :)

Deep Purple MkII's Reunion in 1985 was the major event of the decades... so I'd like to see MkII again ;)

As much as Gillan and Blackmore detest each other I don't see it happenning. The band seems tight and happy with the Steve Morse line-up.

Jeff Lewis wrote "The Zeppelin problem is not about money..." Dude, after the breakup it's ALWAYS been about money. Let's see.... the Led Zeppelin box set came out in 1990, with extra material that you couldn't get UNLESS you bought the set. Then The Complete Studio Recordings box set came out in 1993 (with some biscuits included again). Then there's Early Days: The Best of Led Zeppelin, Vol. 1 in 1999, and Latter Days: Best of Led Zeppelin, Vol.2 in 2000. Then we have Mothership in 2007, and a new box set is coming out this year. All came out just in time for Christmas, I'm sure.

But it's not about the money.

Wow!Deep Purple now that is something I would like to see,I seen them on their Perfect Strangers Tour and it was awesome!I also seen Page and Plant tour in 95 and 98 and they too were awesome and as much as I would love to see a Led Zeppelin tour, everyone knows that it is the one band that has to have Page,Plant,Jones, and Bonham to be called Led Zeppelin, there cannot be any replacements. Some bands can replace members and keep going,Led Zeppelin is not one of those bands, their legacy is just to big to f@#k with and Plant knows that and I think all the money in the world could not change Plants mind.
