Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt Planning ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’ Score

Magnetic Fields just dropped their like ninth album, Realism, this week, but frontman Stephin Merritt already has his sights set on his next project: He’s planning to perform a live score for the silent version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which came out in 1917. Merritt plans to sync his lyrics up with the talking onscreen, and he hopes to release the score after he performs it on May 4 at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre. For any other band, this might seem like a weird diversion, but for the Magnetic Fields, it seems relatively tame. [Pitchfork]
