Magnetic Fields announce October tour

The curmudgeonly Stephin Merritt and his Magnetic Fields aren’t done with promoting Distortion just yet. The man who called the Jesus & Mary Chain’s Psychocandy “the last significant event in popular music production” is hitting the road for a few October dates in support of the album.

Earplugs might be necessary as the band cranks up the feedback on the tour (although perhaps not as necessary as on the ear-bleedingly loud My Bloody Valentine comeback shows), which is set to start in Minneapolis on October 10. Pitchfork is also reporting that Merrit’s soundtrack for Neil Gaiman’s theatrical production of Coraline is finally ready for human consumption. Coraline opens on May 6, 2009, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York City.
