In a move that could prove her adaptability to music’s changing landscape or be like the time your mom tried to join Facebook, Madonna has become the latest artist to add a social networking component to her website. The artist’s Icon fan club has relaunched as Icon Social, which offers free registration but also a $40 platinum membership that features members-only contests, ticket presales, and other exclusives. Madonna’s site comes after the launch of Kanye West’s web browser and Radiohead’s W.A.S.T.E. network. Though Madonna has proved time and again that she can reinvent herself, she would be the first of pop music’s old guard to make a leap in the cyber age.
