When The Heist was first released, “White Walls” was the track which received the most mixed reactions. Some thought the song was a fun, up-beat banger and others thought Schoolboy Q seemed out of place on the album. But, now as we approach the one year anniversary of the release of The Heist, “White Walls” is the album’s newest single.
With videos for songs like “Thrift Shop”, “And We Dance”, and “Can’t Hold Us”, Macklemore has given us a sense of the level of performance he wants to show through in his music videos. The visuals for “White Walls” continue this trend. Macklemore plays the role of Mackle Jackson, a heroic figure who wears a bright yellow cowboy outfit, carries both a machete and a bow-and-arrow, and hooks up with a fine Daisy Duke.
Things quickly take a turn as we are shown Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Schoolboy Q, Hollis and others having a good time at a pool party with a swarm of old ladies. There is a lot of hooking up and drinking 40oz. To add to all the gaudiness being displayed, the video is cameos galore. Wiz Khalifa, Big Boi, Trinidad Jame$, ASAP Rocky, DJ Drama, and (finally)—the king of Seattle hip hop—Sir Mix-A-Lot all make an appearance.
