Merge Records founder Mac McCaughan, who you may also know from his work in Portastatic and Superchunk, can add the prestigious title of Live Sports Blogger to his list of accomplishments since he spent last night live-blogging game seven of the Boston Bruins-Carolina Hurricanes NHL series.
McCaughan is from North Carolina, so predictably, his live-blog is pro-Hurricanes, and since they won, it ends with a celebration. While I don't agree with McCaughan's Hurricane fandom (seriously, hockey in North Carolina makes no sense, and the Hurricanes winning the cup a few years ago set back hockey a few years), it's interesting to read his live-blog because it veers rapidly between dejection when the Canes fall behind to elation when they win, and then to curiosity when he acknowledges he's a hockey layman. Go to Portastatic's blog to read McCaughan's account of the game. [via Idolator]

It's no weirder having hockey in NC than it is having soccer in, you know, America, is it? All right, it's a little weirder than that. But I tend to buy the energy of the Hurricanes fan base over the Panthers fans. Those people come and go as they please.
