Lyrics are harder to find in the digital era

In news that should surprise no one who has ever tried to review an album using only a digital album copy, a new survey says that fans are having an increasingly difficult time finding lyrics to their favorite albums. The decline of physical copies of album—and those albums sleevenotes—already is a limiting factor to finding album lyrics. There are also inaccurate lyrics listings on multiple websites, who usually only cover more major releases anyway.

Despite the decline in physical sales, demand for lyrics has not gone down, as 90% of people surveyed still wanted lyrics to enhance their experience of a band. This survey may trigger bands and labels to consider releasing lyrics with their digital downloads, which may even have the effect of encouraging legal downloading. It won't be enough to save the music industry, but progress is progress.

NIN did it with "The Slip." It is nice to have something to actually look at with an mp3.
