Lupe Fiasco begins recording 'The Cool'

Remember last year when Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor sold 80,000 units and people were calling it a flop? Fast forward to today and the record execs at Atlantic would probably being doing the "Dance of Joy" if a new artist without a hit song sold that many albums in their first week. It'll be interesting to see what the music environment is like around October 31, the date Lupe hopes to have his next album The Cool in stores. He recently entered the studio to begin recording and is still hopeful to get Pink Floyd on the album.
Reiterating his desire to round up members of Pink Floyd to make a guest appearance on the project, Fiasco conceded, "Nothing has developed yet. But once the stew gets swirling and people start talking, you never know. I hope it does work out."

I can't say that combination has me excited, but at least its better than him wanting to work with The Killers like Ghostdini. He also discussed an upcoming "top secret" project.
There's also a"top secret" project in the works with "another superstar rapper and someone who is a rapper/producer," but Fiasco declined to reveal details, including whether the pairing was for a full album or just a handful of songs.

I'm thinking perhaps Jay-Z and Kanye West are the other artists in the "top secret" project. [Billboard]
