Ludacris' new mixtape, 1.21 Gigawatts: Back to the First Time, has a couple tracks on it where the Atlanta rapper takes aim at current stars Drake and Big Sean. On one track, "Bada Boom," Luda sends off loads of disses directed, apparently, at nobody specific. But even though the southern spitter doesn't call out any names, we're sure he's talking about Sean and Drizzy who, according to MTV, have both talked in interviews about rappers adopting their style of delivery. Drake "called out Ludacris, in particular, for an unsuccessful attempt at copying the style on the single “My Chick Bad” ("Comin' down the street like a parade/Macy's!")."
The style in question is something Big Sean calls his "Supa Dupa" flow, but it's also been referred to as "hashtag rap" because it's an easy way to emphasize creative and clever punch lines, similar to how hashtags are used on websites like Twitter. Drake credits Sean with exposing him to the style, which has boomed in popularity as of late.
On "Bada Boom," Luda doesn't say anything directly to his targets, but he does say, "'My Chick Bad' went platinum, still winning motherfucker!" So, yeah. If Ludacris doesn't want beef, maybe he just needed to get some feelings off his chest. Big Sean isn't looking for a fight though, and he told the following to MTV in March. [Vibe]
Don't get it wrong I'm not trying to dis Ludacris or nothing. He's a great MC. But even though that that style that got so overused, there was a lot of people who did it great and there was a lot of people who didn't do it so great. People always ask me was you mad that people took that style from you. I'm like, ‘Nah, that went and shows me how far I can go as an artist.' I feel like I changed hip-hop.
