L.A. Film Fest brings plenty of music action
Like a movie needs a soundtrack, today's big film festivals seem to have to have a musical component to them as well. Did anybody catch U2's impromptu performance on the red carpet at Cannes? Did anybody really care? Is anybody going to catch their new 3D concert film? I'll pass on that.
Los Angeles' upcoming film festival is chock full of music related fun. Following in the vein of last year's Artist in Residence being Danger Mouse, this year the honor goes to Pharrell Williams (pictured). He'll be on hand to host a couple of films he picked out. What does Skateboard P's taste in cinema lean towards? Um, how about Close Encounters of the Third Kind and National Lampoon's Vacation? Outdoor screenings at the beautiful Ford Amphitheatre will include rock pics Dark Side of the Zeppelin: The Laserium Extravaganza, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten, and the Flaming Lips concert film U.F.O.s at the Zoo. And the fest will put on two music video collection screenings, one a mixed bag and one focusing on the work of Patrick Daughters. Head to the fest's website for full details on locations, times, and prices.
