Come on, admit it. You got sucked in by the promise of a shoegazer revival about five years or so ago, just like we did. You let the thick, lazy waves of guitar wash over you as you soaked up those Startford 4 and Folksongs For the Afterlife albums, with visions of Ride deluxe reissues dancing in your head. And you probably pinned most of your hopes on Longwave, the bright young things of neo-shoegaze. Hell, they were making UK press salivate on tour with the Strokes, and everything looked rosy.
OK, so the new age of shoegaze never quite arrived. And when was the last time you heard about the Stratford 4? But stalwarts Longwave stuck around, and unsurprisingly grew out of the "shoegaze" tag. They've got a new album in the can, recorded with Bridgeport, CT's favorite son, Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, et al). Some preview tunes are up now on their MySpace page, and they indicate a direction that's more in the mode of Editors than Slowdive, but still quite cool. And FYI, if you happen to have a European spring vacation coming up, you might be able to catch them live next month.
European tour dates: May 6 - Hamburg - Gruener Jaeger May 8 - Glasgow, Barfly May 9 - Manchester, Dry Bar May 10 - London, Barfly
