Long Blondes singer Kate Jackson launching solo career

Sheffield indie-rockers The Long Blondes announced yesterday that they were breaking up following the alarming stroke suffered by guitarist Dorian Cox. Now singer Kate Jackson has been talking about her plans following the split, and it appears she is going solo.

Jackson told NME: "I'm writing a lot of lyrics and I'm trying to write music on my own, which is something I've never done before.” There’s no news yet on when these recording will surface, although there is some good news for Long Blondes fans, as the band is releasing its Singles compilation album this week. “We thought that'd be a really good way to round up everything we've done in the past,” says Jackson.

Concerning Cox and his plight, Jackson talks warmly of Long Blondes fans who have flocked to pay tribute."It was an overwhelming reaction. He had so many cards and well-wishers on MySpace and Facebook and on our Long Blondes site as well. It was amazing. I think that really helped him." [NME]

That last album was wicked retahded, but the first album was too good to merit such a quick breakup. It'll be interesting to see if she can muster up some good on her own
