Headliners confirmed for Lollapalooza 2008

The speculation has lived up to the hype. The dream lineup leaked last week by the Sun Times for Lollapalooza 2008 has been confirmed. Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, the reunited Rage Against the Machine, Jack White’s non-Stripe band the Raconteurs, and native Chicagoans Kanye West and wilco will share headlining duties on the main stage. Other acts confirmed are Gnarls Barkley, Lupe Fiasco, the Black Keys. Broken Social Scene, G. Love and Special Sauce, Blues Traveler, and Mates of State.

Several acts that have played at Chicago’s independent festivals are stepping up to the big dance this year, including Bloc Party, Cat Power, Stephen Malkmus, Girl Talk, Jamie Lidell, Gutter Twins, Kid Sister and Grizzly Bear. Lollapalooza, scheduled for August 1-3 in Grant Park, is produced by Austin-based C3 Presents. Advance three day passes are now on sale for a limited time at $190 (after which there is a fifteen dollar hike) on the festival’s website. C3 partner Charles Attal says that even though Lollapalooza sold out last year to the tune of $9.8 million,  ticket sales so far are outpacing last year’s festival. [Billboard]
