Politics getting nasty with Live Earth concert in the U.S.

Via the L.A. Times:
Can't anything just not get political these days? Seems not. It's an ugly, ugly time we live in, folks.
A while ago we told you Al Gore was getting together a series of "Live Earth" concerts to raise awareness for the dangers of global warming. Slated for 7/7/07, the idea behind the event was to have concerts on all seven continents. Organizers wanted to use the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the event's North American venue. But that threw some Republican lawmakers into a tizzy. After the Interior Department initially rejected the Mall idea, the Senate took up the issue. But Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, famous for calling global warming "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," and Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, have effectively blocked any movement on the issue. Now those behind Live Earth have had to begun looking into other possible East Coast venues, such as Shea Stadium.
Scroll down and watch that Ted Leo video again if this political censorship enrages you.
