On September 11, Calexico will release Algiers, it's first record for Anti- and first album since 2008's Carried To Dust. They've already shared the moody "Para," and now the group gives us another taste from the new album in the form of "Splitter."
Algiers was recorded in the New Orleans neighborhood of the same name, but "Splitter" is more roadtrip folk-pop than a second-line jaunt. You can listen to the song over at Soundcloud, and below watch Calexico's two principals, Joey Burns and John Convertino, run through the track live in their rehearsal space/garage. Somehow, even with just guitar and drums, they can make a song sound larger than life. [Stereogum]
