Meek Mill‘s KeY Wane and Jahlil Beats-produced “Amen” helped to power his Dreamchasers 2 mixtape to over 1.5 million downloads in its first six hours, peaked at the fourth spot on Billboard’s U.S. Rap Songs chart and has been rebranded as the lead single from the MMG rapper’s upcoming debut album, Dreams & Nightmares. That’s all good and dandy, but now lend an ear to Chiddy Bang’s production maestro Xaphoon Jones‘ radical reinterpretation.
For his remix (or “bootleg”), Xaphoon rids the track of its chiming keys, off-kilter drums and hearty organs (basically anything that sounds “churchy”), enlisting kinetic snares, whirling sirens and crunchy bass stabs as suitable replacements. The original melody remains in tact, so it’s still a winner.
This “Amen” bootleg will find a home on the Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol. III, due out tomorrow.
