As learned listeners will know, Grime was built on a concoction of Rap, Garage and Dancehall influences. It's also one of the few genres that can mesh into other sounds and styles--successfully. That's the ironic beauty of this brash, unabashed and, more often than not, intimidating category of music.
Case in point: Wiley, the widely recognized "Godfather of Grime," and hot young spitter J2K's newest joint offering. The East London MCs tend to fellow Londoners Disclosure's "Tenderly" instrumental, and embed typically pacey verses--chock full of braggadocio--into the melodic house rhythm. What's more, it sounds as natural to their vocals as any bassline.
