We already reported on the special birthday commemorations that Kill Rock Stars has in store for the late Elliott Smith, and now his former label has let loose another rare track for our listening pleasure.
Smith's 1997 album Either/Or contained the ghostly "Angeles," a largely acoustic philosophical ramble that lives up to the LP's Kierkegaard-inspired title. Kill Rock Stars has an alternate take of the song that's even more stripped-down than the original. Gone is the organ drone as well as Smith's double-tracked vocals, leaving just his guitar and voice ("That was called 'Angeles,'" he says at the end). Take a listen below, and head to Kill Rock Stars for more Elliott Smith specials during the month of August. [Spin]
