There’s still no word yet if Sonic Youth is breaking up due to the break up of principals (and former romantic partners) Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon. But today comes news that Moore has a new band called Chelsea Light Moving.
The group features Moore on guitar and vocals, Keith Wood also on guitar, Samara Lubelski on bass, and John Maloney on drums. They’re hard at work on a full-length album to be put out by Matador, but in the meantime they’ve shared “Burroughs,” a song about the titular author.
Recorded in western Massachusetts this past spring, the track is meant to be “the sound of Wild Boys looking to jack hypos of core passion into their veins. Boy on boy. Girl on girl. Start there. It’s not even music – it’s an amphetamine sonnet for the on-the-loose lovers of the world.”
The on-the-loose lovers in Chelsea Light Moving have a string of live dates, which you can check out below. You can listen to “Burroughs” via Matador’s website.
