Last month, we reported that Damon Albarn was recording an album in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the course of five days with producers like Dan the Automator, Actress, Gil Scott-Heron collaborator Richard Russell, Jneiro Jarel, and Kwes.
And today, the Gorillaz/Blur frontman has revealed details along with three tracks from the project, which is a collaboration with Warp Records and Oxfam. It’s called Kinshasa One Two — the album was recorded in the Congolese capital of Kinshasa — and it will be released under the group name DRC Music. The group features the aforementioned producers along with more than 50 artists and performers from the African nation.
You can stream three of the album tracks below. If you only have time for one, be sure you listen to “Hallo.” Featuring vocalists Tout Puissant Mukalo and Nelly Liyemge, the track is a gorgeous, organic piece full of swaying melodies and head-nodding percussion.
After you’re done streaming the tracks — several times, I’d imagine — you can view the album’s track listing and watch a video trailer below. You can pre-order the album now at the DRC Music website. All proceeds raised from sales will go toward Oxfam’s work to assist thousands of poverty-stricken people in the Congo.
