Listen: Jay Farrar And Yim Yames Release First Song From Woody Guthrie Tribute Album

This year would have marked the 100th birthday of Woody Guthrie, and some suitable celebrations are already underway. An album titled New Multitudes, set for release on Feb. 27, is one of the most curious releases to emerge as part of the tributes. The record is a collaboration between Jay Farrar of Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket, plus Will Johnson (Centro-matic) and Anders Parker (Gob Iron). The first track to be released from the album is a version of Guthrie’s “Old LA,” which is a typically melancholy piece of alt. country fueled by warm guitar riffs and bittersweet vocal harmonies.
