Listen: Florence + The Machine And Josh Homme Cover “Jackson” For ‘MTV Unplugged’

Of the 11 tracks on Florence + The Machine’s soon-coming MTV Unplugged release, the two most intriguing listens look to be covers. We’re hearing one of them today in the band’s appropriately stripped-down take on Johnny Cash and June Carter’s “Jackson.” As you’ll hear for yourself below, they remain true to the foot-stomping original minus some of the twangy, driving guitars.

Rather, frontwoman Florence Welch’s booming voice commands your attention while guest Josh Homme does his best Cash impression as the guitars work their way in. It’s pretty solid, though I’m still confused as to why Homme was involved here. Maybe Welch will be on the next Queens of the Stone Age album…

You can stream the cover below. The Unplugged special airs April 8 on MTV and will be released two days later. [CoS]
