The opinionated and occasionally outspoken Lily Allen has felt the need to ardently defend her stance against music piracy and file sharing. This time Allen's beef is with Bob Lefsetz, former biz lawyer and unofficial "industry analyst." Lefsetz is also the writer of a daily blog titled The Lefsetz Letter, in which he rattles off his take on the latest industry rumblings. In yesterday's letter, Lefsetz, like so many others have, argues vehemently against Allen's anti-piracy arguments, basically painting her as an air-headed, slack-jawed kid who is little else than "an entertaining Tweeter." "Make legendary music and you’ll survive the new world Lily. Because you’re never going to make it on your smarts," finishes Lefsetz.
But instead of leaving this one alone, and realizing the tediousness of directly dealing with a man with a bullhorn for a mouth, Allen wrote back a day later threatening to sick her lawyers on Lefsetz. Surely she knows Lefsetz himself is a former entertainment lawyer?
Allen's Response: Note the frequent misuses of "your" and you're." Just saying!
"...You claim to have an in depth knowledge of the music industry, and if this is the case you've written a deliberately misleading article. I think that's a little irresponsible. I'd appreciate an apology. I'm not a hypocrite music , I pay for music that I want to listen to. I don't illegally download music and haven't done for about 7 years. Maybe your just trying to get a reaction and for me to publicise your website. That won't work. Besides It's unauthorised file sharing that I have a problem with, not record companies giving away music as a promotional tool. you're piece yesterday was mildly interesting, todays is insulting and I'll be consulting my lawyers on the matter."
