Update: It turns out Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV didn't sell a milli, a milli, a milli after all. Billboard reports that he missed the mark by about 36,000 copies. For those who don't feel like doing the math, Weezy pushed 964,000 copies. Oh well. He'll break one million next week.
Lil Wayne has outdone the sales projections for Tha Carter IV as he has apparently sold more than one million copies of the album, according to Hits Daily Double. Although the numbers aren't final yet -- they will be tomorrow -- the site lists that 1,000,690 units have been moved since the album hit shelves Monday, Aug. 29.
If these numbers hold (they more than likely will), this will be the first time Weezy has sold this many copies in his first week since Tha Carter III pushed 1.01 million units in June 2008. It will also be his third number one album as it will easily beat out the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 232,320 albums sold for I'm With You.
While this is obviously huge news for Weezy, there's some slightly bigger news residing in the third spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Can you guess who came in at number three? Yeah, you were right: Adele. Her sophomore album, 21, just cannot be stopped and we still can't figure out why she continues to dominate the charts.
Is it possible that she got the huge bump following her great performance at the MTV Video Music Awards? It's possible, but holy shit, she beat out Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch The Throne, which has only been out for like a month. Damn.
