If beginning of December stats stay firm, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III will come in as 2008's best-selling album, moving more that 2.7 million units. Coldplay's Viva La Vida will come in at number two, moving more than 1.9 million units. But the most interesting inclusions are that of Kid Rock's Rock N' Roll Jesus and AC/DC's Black Ice at numbers three and four, since neither of those albums were not available as digital downloads, giving the music industry perhaps its final hope that CD sales could still sustain the industry.
There are sure to be some big stories written about what those two albums' sales mean for the industry (hey, here's one), but at the same time, both albums are aberrations in an overall trend, especially since Coldplay beat both albums, and they sold almost a million copies of their album digitally (not to mention Lil Wayne, whose digital presence is second to none). But still, it's a pretty interesing statistical revelation that proves the CD isn't entirely dead. [Hypebot]
