If you never thought Lil Wayne and Brian Wilson would team up for a record, think again. As predicted, a large-scale gathering of musical minds happened after the Grammy Awards on Sunday (Jan.31) to rerecord a version of “We Are the World,” with all proceeds from the track set to go to victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The song was rerecorded at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood just after the Grammys, and will be debuted on NBC on Feb. 12. Crash director Paul Haggis has put together a video for the song, which will feature Kanye West, Celine Dion, Snoop Dogg, Miley Cyrus, Barbara Streisand and Carlos Santana. Oh to have been a fly on the wall during that meeting of minds.
Wayne was typically outspoken after the recording, saying: “I don't know how to sing,” but apparently contributing something anyway. The hip-hop star also had some pointed words about the New Orleans disaster in 2005. "I think it's amazing what's been done for Haiti, but I think it's amazing what hasn't been done for New Orleans," he said.
