Lil Wayne sued by Rolling Stones over "Playing with Fire"

Oh Lil Wayne, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might just find... you're getting sued by The Rolling Stones for copyright infringement of seemingly flimsy grounds.

The lawsuit from publishing company, Abcko, cites similarities between Wayne's "Playing with Fire" and the Stones' "Play with Fire" that apparently go deeper than their respective titles. Wayne doesn't sample the Stones, but lawyers found lines like "But you can't blame me if I set this stage on fire" far too similar to "But don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire."

Abcko is also concerned that fans will confuse Lil Wayne's "explicit, sexist  and offensive language" with The Rolling Stones image of... what exactly? Is getting litigious the only way to stay relevant if you're an old rocker? I can't wait till this beef pops up on a mixtape.

You can sue someone for using the three of the same words in a sentence? Words like "but" and "me"? Cripes.

I actually do think whoever wrote "Playing With Fire" probably took the idea from the Rolling Stones song. They do sound a lot alike. Still, if it was indeed the band's idea to sue (and not just the publisher's), it's hypocritical because the Rolling Stones played old blues songs on their albums without paying or even crediting the original songwriters like Willie Dixon or Robert Johnson. I love the Stones' music, but, damn, this does makes them look like greedy hypocrites.

Can't people find something better to complain about?

Just another example of old white men in cheap suits with a lot of money trying to take something from a black man. We should pay them reparations or give them 40 acres.

Most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!!

If this holds up in court, then we have a real problem with our judicial system.

Hey, the Rolling Stones successfully sued The Verve. Go for it! They know, at the very least, it'll only bring everyone involved more publicity. Did you know John Fogerty (CCR) was once sued for writing a track that sounded too much like a track he wrote for Creedence?

A$$holes, Abcko is suing -- not the Stones. The Stones haven't owned the rights to that song since they broke rank with Allen Klein in 1969 and formed their own record company. Do your homework before you drag real artists like the Stones through the mud. Stones have been relevant for more than 40 years. Lil Wayne will be living back in Compton or whatever hive he came from before the decade's through.

Actually, I content The Stones have not been relevant since the late '70s, and Mick Jagger is a parasite who has dragged his own legacy through the mud for decades.

I contend Mick Jagger is an icon, sir.
Your mother would still do him...

Yeah, but Bin Laden is an icon too. It's overrated.
As for my mother, she is and always has been a Beatles fan. She'd still do Ringo, but Jagger, not so much.

cut out the color, musical style and choices of words, you have 2 drug addicts who both believe that they are the second coming... if we put their livers (or their brains) next to eachother, we would have mirror images of complete mush..
