Lil Wayne Has Been Released From Prison

There was a lot of confusion this morning as to whether Lil Wayne was actually going to be released from prison today as scheduled. MTV News initially reported that Weezy would remain behind bars for another day: "His time was miscalculated," said officer Carl Carabello outside Rikers Island jail. "He owes one day of 'good time', so it's going to be another night. If you get an infraction in jail, they'll take away 'good time' – time that you accumulated for good behavior."

But it turned out the Carabello was incorrect in his assertion, or perhaps just trying to keep the baying mob of paparazzi away, because Wayne was released after serving eight months of his yearlong sentence for gun possession at around 8:35 this morning. Young Money president Mack Maine told MTV on Wednesday that Weezy would celebrate his homecoming by going to—yes, you guessed it—a Miami strip club.

As we told you yesterday, MTV is live blogging every tiny detail regarding Wayne’s release over at this link, which feature a dazzling interactive map full of flashing green and red lights (see below), and comments from his fans who waited outside Rikers all night. "We were planning on coming in the morning, but we saw it on [Drake’s] Twitter so we were like, 'Let's play it safe and come tonight,'” said a woman named Maria. Naturally, TMZ is among the first news outlets to grab a picture of the newly released Wayne, but he looks none-too happy about the scrum of photographers judging from this shot.
