We have some disappointing news for all you Young Money fans hoping that the label’s two best artists, Lil Wayne and Drake, were actually recording a joint album. They’re not. Even though the project was previously confirmed by Young Money/Cash Money boss Birdman, Drizzy told XXL that he and Weezy scrapped the project.
Why? Because of the inevitable comparisons to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne. Ha, wouldn’t you think that inherent competition would make Drake and Weezy work harder on their project? Guess not. Although, Drizzy does note that the album isn’t completely dead, just for now. View a snippet of the XXL interview below.
“Me and Wayne scrapped the idea of a collaboration album,” Drake exclusively told XXL. “We just agreed that it would be looked upon as…It would be sort of this competition [with Watch The Throne]. I feel like it would get caught in this whirlwind of hype. [Wayne] agreed. We just said, ‘If we do it, we’ll do it down the line. But right now is not the time.’”
