Lil Wayne comparable to...Bob Dylan?
In this week’s issue of TIME, writer Josh Tyrangiel compares NOLA rapper Lil’ Wayne to musician Bob Dylan. This ambitious comparison was prompted by Lil’ Wayne’s long awaited LP, The Carter III reaching over one million in sales during it’s first week on the charts.

Tyrangiel claims Wayne sounds like a Red Foxx rendition of Bob Dylan and goes on to say “Wayne claims his rhymes are stream of consciousness, but even if they aren't, they sound as though they're hitting the air for the first time, unfolding with an electricity that's--forbid the sacrilege--Dylanesque.”

While Weezy’s “Lollipop” is no “Blowin’ in the Wind,” TIME readers unfamiliar with the pint size emcee’s catalog might just give rap a second listen. [Hip Hop DX]

greatest rapper alive, at least. but you cant compare cross genre. its like comparing dylan and the led. its different music

jack

I like Weezy and all, but if I were skeptical about rap and someone told me he was the Dylan of the genre, I'd probably be put off of it for good.

I think it's a somewhat apt comparison. I mean, if you read the article, they compare the timbre of their voices (check) and their use of poetic devices within their syntax (double-check). I think a lot of people are only reading that a comparison was made, and are blowing the actual comparison up into something it never was.

Godfather D is an ignorant ass.

Josephus

i agree with you godfather. I think that me and you would get along well.

godfather D(umbass) & $l@ve_o wna (WTF), The first thing you two ignorant asses need to do is pick up a dictionary to learn correct spelling. The second would be to pick up an English book for correct grammar usage before trying to put anyone down. When you finish choking off the hateraide you are drinking maybe your ears will be clear to hear and receive something other than the trash you are use too. PEACE & CHILL OUT

goodness gracious people. What in the hell. Biggie smalls, perhaps, maybe, could be called the "dylan of rap" among other things, but still Dylan is not very comparable, first because it's a different genre, second because he's been going for about 50 years now, and changing genres and still is effective. lil wayne is absolutely not even close. Are lil wayne's songs still going to be around 50 years from now? gosh I really hope not. Beats alone don't last very long, it's the lyrics. Sure wayne writes clever stuff, but it's not freaking bob dylan. Time magazine what a fraud, hilarious.

Awful. Absolutely terrible. Biggie Smalls, maybe, you could say he'd be like the "dylan of rap" maybe. But lil wayne is nowhere even close, nowhere even in the vicinity. I'm sorry, yeah he has some interesting clever little lyricisms but he's no biggie, no nas or jay z of the 90s, he's not close to those guys, let alone dylan.

I've been saying it for years...
