In this week’s issue of TIME, writer Josh Tyrangiel compares NOLA rapper Lil’ Wayne to musician Bob Dylan. This ambitious comparison was prompted by Lil’ Wayne’s long awaited LP, The Carter III reaching over one million in sales during it’s first week on the charts.Tyrangiel claims Wayne sounds like a Red Foxx rendition of Bob Dylan and goes on to say “Wayne claims his rhymes are stream of consciousness, but even if they aren't, they sound as though they're hitting the air for the first time, unfolding with an electricity that's--forbid the sacrilege--Dylanesque.”
While Weezy’s “Lollipop” is no “Blowin’ in the Wind,” TIME readers unfamiliar with the pint size emcee’s catalog might just give rap a second listen. [Hip Hop DX]
