Lil Mama, the diminutive rapper best known for a song about lip gloss (called "Lip Gloss") is still busy trying to make her stage crashing at the VMAs into a big deal, nearly two days after the awards.
Mama, who jumped onstage at the end of "Empire State of Mind," wasn't even acknowledged by Jay-Z when she was onstage, and I didn't even mention her coming onstage when I wrote up the performance yesterday (or during the live-blog) because it seemed so desperate and bizarre (plus I wasn't sure of who it was).
While Kanye has had to apologize 1,800 times for a likely staged "controversy," no one (not even Jay-Z) has even asked for Lil Mama to apologize. But she did any way. Here's what she said:
"I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys," the statement reads. "I admire them and look up to them as role models. 'Empire State of Mind' had my emotions running high. In that moment I came up onstage to celebrate my two icons singing about NY."
It would have actually been cooler had she said, "I totally meant to disrespect Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. Screw those chumps." But no, here she is being overly deferential in an apology no one asked for. Consider yourself absolved, Lil Mama. [MTV]
