Beady Eye and former Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher is suing The New York Post over their claim that he may have fathered a child with an American journalist. According to the Post, Liza Ghorbani, a journalist for The New York Times, is filing a lawsuit against Gallagher for paternity costs. Ghorbani alleges that she had an affair with the Britpop icon until around three months after the birth of a child in January. Neither Ghorbani nor Gallagher is speaking to reporters at present, but the singer’s British spokesman confirmed that he will be “pursuing legal action” against the tabloid, before refusing to comment any further on “gossip”.
Ghorbani, 39, met Gallagher, 40, in 2010, when the Times reporter interviewed the rocker about his new clothing line. A source for the Post claimed that “He started an affair with her that night, they took a few months off, then started again.”
Gallagher has been married to actress and former All Saints singer, Nicole Appleton, since 2008. The couple have one child together, and Gallagher has two other children from previous relationships.
Gallagher has never been a friend of the tabloids since the Oasis glory days of the mid ‘90s, and his off stage antics often provided more fodder than the music his bands released. The last few days’ events appear to continue this trend. Notorious British tabloid The Sun, ran a story on Sunday reporting that a famous British rock star was facing a multi-million dollar paternity lawsuit in the U.S., before The Daily News ran further exclusives on Wednesday.
Gallagher has sought the services of top Manhattan divorce lawyer Raoul Felder, who has represented many high profile celebs in their divorces including former New York mayor Rudi Giuliani and David Guest in his spilt from Liza Minelli. He has also worked on several famous paternity cases, including representing Luciana Morad who had a child with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger.
