Legends pay tribute to Ron Asheton, origins of punk

If you haven't already taken a moment to pay tribute to the recent death of the Stooges' founding guitarist, Ron Asheton, the Metro Times has a great collection of memorials from Asheton's colleagues and cohorts. Many music legends attest to Ron's vivid personality and inspired guitar noodling: J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), John Holmstrom (Punk Magazine), Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Tommy Ramone, Alice Cooper, etc. Their reflections run from deeply personal affirmations of his character to vaguely technical declarations of his importance in the tradition of punk rock. So put on those first two Stooges records and reminisce about your first beer or the first guitar solo you tried to play via these wide-ranging reflections.
