Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo will release a solo album, Between the Times & the Tides, on March 20. It'll drop through Matador Records, which is the same label Sonic Youth's last LP, The Eternal, was put out on. The solo release will feature plenty of past SY collaborators, including bandmate/drummer Steve Shelley, former drummer Bob Bert, Jim O'Rourke, Nels Cline, Alan Licht, Irwin Menkin and John Medeski. According to Matador's site, Ranaldo's album will be "equal parts smart, confident and loose."
Tour dates for the upcoming year should be announced relatively soon and, with the future of Sonic Youth unknown, ought to provide comfort for fans looking to hold onto a group that's been around since 1981.
